It’s that time of year again.
The time of year that always seems so far away until it’s here…
Right in front of your face.
I remember with absolute clarity my parents telling me how much faster each year would go as I got older,
And like a lot of other things my parents told me,
I didn’t believe them.
Until now…
How is it 2017 already?
How is it possible that 2016 has come and gone already?
I feel like I can completely commensurate with Rumplestiltskin.
It’s like I woke up and the entire year was already gone!
The speed of the last few years has increased at an alarming rate,
And I don’t think it’s going to slow down anytime soon.
Quite the contrary, actually.
From what I’ve heard it’s only going to speed up year after year.
Remember when you used to anxiously wait all December for Christmas? It seemed like it was a lifetime until Santa put gifts under your tree, it seemed like the holidays lasted so long, and you were able to savor each delicious moment for so much longer.
Now with two kids of my own I find myself having to savor the moments as they race by.
I mean they literally race by so fast I feel the urge to hold on to every single fleeting memory because I know all too well that it will be gone before I know it.
So here we are in 2017 and with it comes the list of goals and resolutions.
In the last few years I haven’t made any strict New Year’s resolutions instead favoring for more go-with-the-flow ideas of what I want to accomplish and also what I want to let go. So I’ve continue to follow this tradition. I’m not making resolutions and goals that will set me up for failure or that I feel I have to do in order to feel accomplished.
Instead I’ve come up with resolutions and goals that will help further help me ramble on this journey of self-discovery. I’ve created resolutions and goals centered around the things I have put off for far too long and things I no longer want to regret not doing.
My Resolutions for 2017
LIFESTYLE
Go to the beach more
Baring it all in a bikini has never appealed to me. Then after I had kids I had to wear a bikini and lug everything to and from the beach.
The appeal became non-existent.
Did I forget to mention I live by some of the most beautiful beaches in the world?
Oh and those two darlings of mine love the beach.
So one of my goals is to go to the beach more.
To relax about wearing a swimsuit and just enjoy the sound of the waves washing up on the sand.
We’ve instituted Beach Sundays come Spring!
Be more Spontaneous
With the workload I carry, the kid’s school schedule and activities I really become a creature of habit.
I tend to grit my teeth and try to “just get through it” and then I realize another year has passed and I have “just gotten through” the year, again.
Sigh.
It’s just not the way I want to live my life.
So now I have to figure out how to be more spontaneous.
Just kidding! That would totally defeat the point.
BODY AND WELLNESS
Getting back into working out
I used to work out like it was my job. And I guess you could say it was easy to do when I stayed home more during the week.
Now that I work during the weekdays instead of just working on the weekends I’ve gotten out of the habit of working out.
And it’s been soooo hard to get back into it.
The crazy thing is I actually miss working out to the point where I’m craving it,
Yep, crazy, I know.
One of the hardest parts has been deciding what I want to do to workout.
I have always been the perfectionist type and feel the overwhelming urge to start one fitness program and stick with it until I read a really great article from Women’s Running talking about how fulfilling it was when she just did what she wanted.
So that’s what I plan to do.
Workout without a set agenda and instead dive in and try whatever I want.
Which interestingly enough leads me to my next resolution ⬇
Try a Pure Barre class
We have a location here, and it’s something I have wanted to do for awhile, but have just never made the time to do.
I think it would be awesome to try it out, and see if I remember anything from all those years of dancing when I was a kid.
Try out more recipes
I follow a lot of food blogs, and even though I longingly stare at their beautiful food photos and research the recipe and then…
I typically don’t go to any great lengths to try it out.
So my goal is to try out a new recipe at least once a month.
CREATIVITY AND LEARNING
Create one new DIY project every month
I love, love, love diving into a new DIY project.
Not only do I love the process of creating something, but I always have something fun at the end that I can either have in the house or gift to a friend.
Learn weaving techniques
My husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and image his surprise when I asked for a loom.
He really wasn’t expecting it.
Have I mentioned I’m pretty much all over the place in my interests?
He bought me this amazing loom from funemstudio on Etsy.
And I’ve made exactly one thing on it.
One thing I’m super proud of just in case you were wondering.
I’ve found so many awesome ideas for wall hangings and there is a plethora of Youtube videos that explain different weaving techniques.
So much easier than following a guide in a book.
So you’ll start to see me filling up the creativity part of my blog soon!
RELATIONSHIPS
One daughter/mommy date per month
In the last few years, we’ve as a family become just plain busy.
Life is awesome and spectacular, but oy vey it’s busy.
As 2016 was winding down I realized I haven’t spent any specific one-on-one time with my girls in quite awhile.
I definitely get one-on-one time during the span of our days, but that’s usually doing something like reading or helping build blocks.
My goal is to create an activity (doesn’t have to be paid) that I do with the girls individually once each month.
I’m thinking activities like long walks and chats.
I’ll let you know how that goes.
SPIRITUALITY
Go to church
I’ve always been interested in learning more about God and spirituality.
And truth be told it is something I always think I’ll get to one day, and then of course it keeps getting pushed to the back burner.
It’s important and even though I have my relationship with God I think it would be awesome to have a church I attend on the regular.
Learn to meditate
I’ve got a book.
To learn to calm my mind.
That’s it.
I’ll see if I can tame my mind long enough to actually accomplish this. 🙂
So I’ve divulged all my resolutions for the New Year and now it’s your turn.
What are your resolutions? Your goals? You dreams for this year?
