Raising children is hard. It’s probably one of the hardest jobs on the planet. What’s harder still is trying to raise strong children. Children that will be able to face challenges head on, overcome them and be better for having experienced them.
Often times we try to shield our children from the hard things happening to us in our life. It’s natural and easy to see why. We love those little ones with all our hearts and we don’t want them to see the world for what it can sometimes be…
harsh, cruel and upsetting.
The thing is these can also be excellent teaching moments.
Moments we can show our children how they too can be strong. We can show them how to overcome adversity and how they can learn to depend on themselves to become stronger.
In the past couple of weeks I’ve had my fair share of negative situations. Life-changing situations that turned into making hard decisions. Situations I didn’t even attempt to put a positive spin on or try to hide from my children.
I didn’t try to hide my tears.
I didn’t try to hold my tongue.
I didn’t try to summon the energy to do anything beyond the bare minimum.
And they noticed.
